Those with an affinity towards cute and witty designs may find Zsar Alanee de Asis of Catastro Tee a breath of fresh air. Her simple and fun creations may endear people to take a closer look at what this 20-year old Graphic Artist has to offer.
How did you come up with Catastro Tee for your brand name?
My boyfriend and I finished the same course, and we're in the same field - Chemistry. At the same time, we're obsessed with cats. We wanted to incorporate cats into our shop name and make it sound like 'catastrophe.' We ended up having Catastro Tee.
How did your journey as a Graphic Designer begin?
I started learning to create Digital Art when I was elected to be the Creative Board Head of Adamson University's Chemical Society. I learned by watching Youtube tutorials on how to use Adobe Illustrator.
What is your favorite subject to create, and why?
Cats and chemistry stuff! A lot of Science enthusiasts love cats. I thought, 'why not incorporate cats and science into my designs?' I'm also fond of sketching women of different races.
Every Graphic Designer has that one creation they're proud of the most. For you, what is that piece, and why?
The Women Belong in the Lab shirt is my fave design because being a Science Major is really tough. Others would consider it as a manly course. I want to prove that women can perform laboratory work as well as men do and excel in this industry.
What are the struggles you encounter as a Graphic Designer?
Getting out of focus!
What is the most important achievement you've accomplished as a Graphic Designer?
It's when I was chosen to illustrate our Organization's pub mats and the chemistry lab manual covers for Adamson University.
What are the strengths you possess as a Graphic Designer?
I can work under pressure. Moreover, I always try to figure things out for the best.
What do people say about your designs?
People say that my designs are simple and very wearable.
How do you handle criticism directed towards your work?
I accept it, learn from it so that I could improve and do better next time.
Are you more comfortable working alone, or do you prefer being a part of a group?
I prefer working alone as much as possible. But if necessary, I could do a collab.
Do you have any advice for talented individuals who are about to start their Graphic Design career?
Invest in yourself. Invest in improving your skills by watching some free tutorials or taking online courses. Practice and practice until you find your own style!
How did you know about Merchiful, and why did you choose it as the platform of your designs?
I've been searching if there's a Print on Demand service here in the Philippines. Merchiful popped up. And yes, they offer great services and merch!
What can Merchiful customers expect from you?
More cat and science-themed designs!
How would you describe yourself in one word?
